iMatter

iMatter

for my students

Particles

Infinite particles

Swirling around in the darkness

The darkness that conceals

The immense complexity of space

The make-up of all universes

All galaxies and stars

All the worlds

That ever have been

And are

And ever will be

Particles

That come together amidst darkness and chaos

And create something within the confines

Of empty space

Particles that come together to form

All the elements of the earth;

Solids, liquids and gasses in all their varieties

These are the building blocks

That make up the worlds

And these are the building blocks

That make up our world

Those infinitesimally small pieces

That cement every proton, electron and neutron

Together

That make them into atoms

And combine those atoms into molecules

And give the molecules their unique and individual properties

That make them what they are.

Particles

Make up you

Make up me

Make up all of us.

And whatever properties these particles give us

When we are formed and created in our mothers’ wombs

Those are what make each of us special

Those are what make us unique

And worthy of respect

And worthy of hope

And worthy of love

Particles

That make up:

Eye color

Hair color

Skin color

They all are beautiful

And they all matter.

They all are matter.

Just like you.

Just like me

And that’s how I know

I matter.
